SIERRA CLUB TO HIGHLIGHT “COMPLETE STREETS” AS PART OF MINNEAPOLIS BICYCLE COALITION JOY RIDE

On Sunday, October 2nd, nearly 100 bicyclists will ride 20 miles of the #1 Bicycling City in America, Minneapolis! The ride will highlight recent improvements in new bicycle lanes and facilities in North Minneapolis, and draw attention to the overall lack of investment in North and Northeast Minneapolis bicycle infrastructure.

The Sierra Club North Star Chapter is a supporter of the Minneapolis Bicycle Coalition, and representatives from the Sierra Club will be speaking about the need for better infrastructure investment in North Minneapolis. Topics covered will be the controversial Lowry Avenue Bridge design, the recently removed bicycle lane on 18th Avenue NE, and the lack of safe facilities for riders in that part of our city.

The route begins and ends at Gold Medal Park in Minneapolis, goes north through downtown to Farview Park, and then across the river to Columbia Park before heading southwest again to Gold Medal Park.

The Joy Ride is an event put on by the Minneapolis Bicycle Coalition to build bridges between groups of bicyclists who don’t often interact, while highlighting our common interest in creating an even more inviting city for us all.

The Sierra Club North Star Chapter is the leading grassroots voice to preserve and protect Minnesota’s environment.
